What is “Private Treaty”?
The term “private treaty” is simply equine marketing terminology for, “let’s talk about this horse”. While many horses offered for sale by CCF have a static price, others have special considerations that cause their sale price to fluctuate. Young horses, high level competition horses and older schoolmaster horses are among those commonly listed as private treaty. Here’s why:
Young and developing horses are often advertised as “private treaty” as they have values that fluctuate while they gain experience.
High level competition horses may require special considerations that cannot be predicted in an advertised price. Varying commissions, transport expenses and other factors can drastically impact the price of a horse of this caliber so discussion needs to take place prior to setting a price on it.
Certain horses are especially close to our hearts so sometimes we just want to know more about your intention for a horse before setting a price on it. We are particularly sentimental about our older schoolmaster-type horses so a perfect home may be more desirable than a set price.
